Warren conceived Ditch of Witches in the thick of a Minnesota blizzard.  Stranded for several hours in a snow-swept ditch, Warren was inspired to create a poetic interlude for his historical musical, a Martin County Hornpipe.  In 1999, Karlyn Holman of Washburn, Wisconsin, added illustrations to the clever poem.  Ditch of Witches is a delightful book for children and anyone young at heart.
